The book covers railroads on both sides of the Columbia River, including the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway, the Mount Hood Railroad, the Klickitat Log & Lumber and Broughton Lumber Co. logging trains, Union Pacific, Oregon Railway & Navigation Co., Burlington Northern, and others. It describes the history of Gorge railroads, from construciton of the first tracks in the area in the 1880s through to 2004.
